This film was written and produced by the Launder & Gilliat team. Unknown to his neighbours, watchmaker Hawkins (ALISTAIR SIM) is actually a professional hired assassin with a talent for killing his victims with bombs. After disposing of a dictator and a millionaire, Hawkins is assigned to kill a politician who is visiting a remote hotel, the GREEN MAN, for a secret tryst with his secretary. There, however, the plot is discovered by vacuum cleaner salesman, GEORGE COLE, who is determined to stop him. This is a black comedy in the Ealing style and includes guests at the hotel such as TERRY THOMAS, RAYMOND HUNTLEY, DORA BRYAN, AVRIL ANGERS and many others.
