Daydream Believers
15th July to 2nd September 2005 in New Gallery Space
Opening times 9am to 3pm weekdays
Open evening Monday 18th July 7.30 to 9.30pm
Amanda’s background is in textiles, particularly hand knitting
which she learned as a very young child in the North-East of England.
It was through this medium that she began to develop her interest
in the interplay of colours.
This exhibition shows stark black and white self-portraits in acrylic.
Drawing on Amanda’s interest in digital photography, the paintings
are close-up representations of parts of her face, with no attempt
to disguise age, imperfection or emotion - a positive move from
the Classical Ideal!
In contrast, we are transported to a brighter, lighter, more ethereal
place by Amanda’s abstract landscapes in a variety of media.
With these new pieces she has returned to her passion for pattern,
texture and colour. She has gone full circle and started to believe
the daydream…..that she can share with others the realms of
her imagination.
Amanda is currently studying for a BA (Fine Art) part-time at the
University of East London. She combines this with being a Community
Mental Health Nurse and single parent.
