After graduating form the Slade School of Fine Art with a Special Commendation in Drawing, Brian began his teaching and lecturing career, specialising in Life Drawing and Photographic Composition. Throughout his life time he has taken part in many one man and mixed exhibitions, showing both traditional landscape and figurative works as well as colourful Abstract compositions, which feature in this current exhibition at Ripley Arts Centre. Brian will also be showing a collection of Photographs in the Drawing room.
“Working from sketches and photographs I begin by simplifying the image into a linear design before transferring to the canvas. During the development of the painting the subject is lost to the abstract arrangement of shape and colour. As I rework areas I try to leave traces of the original design -as in life, which is made up of small comings and goings, everything we take with us still leaves something behind and I try to reflect this feeling in my work.”
