Healing Art

2nd June to 25th June 2004

Clear like a mirrorCecilia Glencross was born in Stockholm, Sweden and spent her summers on an island by the Baltic Sea drawing much of her inspiration from the natural colours, textures and shapes that she found there.

She trained for three years in design crafts and haute couture dressmaking, creating one-off garments that were sold in boutiques in the old part of Stockholm. Using natural fibres such as silk and wool, spinning, dying and weaving it by hand, Cecilia painted and embroidered on silk using appliqué and beads to create unique and exclusive ‘works of art’.Feeling vibrant

Cecilia has been interested in healing and the holistic approach to health for many years and uses her painting to channel healing.

There are three main strands to the work that is being displayed here at Ripley Arts Centre. The first is “Healing Myself Through Painting” where titles of works reflect the journey from pain to recovery.

Healing woundsThe second is “Working as a Healer” where themed artwork, such as Calm Thought, Tenderness and My Place of Rest help people to heal themselves and to be empowered by the paintings.

Lastly “Nature the Healer” creates stillness and inner peace by absorbing the messages and feelings emitted from works such as Sky, Spring Water and Our EarthThe caterpillar grew into a Butterfly

Whilst each painting stands alone as an example of “Healing Art”, the three themes are as intertwined in the exhibition as they are in real life.
