Cecilia Glencross - ‘Summertime’
31st May to 23rd June 2006
Open evening 6th June 2006 7.30-9.30pm
“I was born in Stockholm, Sweden, where I trained for three
years in design, crafts and haute couture dressmaking. (The garments
I created were sold in boutiques in the old part of the city.) I
spent the summer on an island surrounded by the Baltic Sea, and
drew much of my inspiration from the natural colours, textures and
shapes found there.
I find that painting offers me a way of coming to terms with life.
It has allowed me to give full expression to my feelings. After
painting the first two pictures, the others painted themselves –
they were never planned. I usually paint when my mind is completely
clear. I forget everything around me – it is just me and the
paint. I feel free, and let the paint flow. I’m excited by
the colours, textures and shapes. Sometimes I look at the painting
the next day and think to myself ‘I painted that,’ and
do not remember how I did it. These paintings come from the deepest
part of me.
I have been interested in healing and the holistic approach to
health for many years. My painting allows me to give full expression
to my feelings, and is a way of coming to terms with life –
stress, grief, pain or joy. It has helped me to find inner stillness
and peace, and offered me the opportunity to help others.
I want to make life better for people by using my art.
I want to make a difference – my way of doing this is through
my paintings”
