Sevil
Dervish
As
a young child Sevil was constantly encouraged in her passion for photography.
Since then she has enriched her imagination by travel and her work shows
empathy towards many differing cultures. During her professional career,
Sevil’s skills gained further development working alongside many
of London’s top photographers, including Lord Snowdon, Norman Parkinson
and David Bailey.
An appreciation for the aesthetic is seen in her attention to detail,
and Sevil’s ability to capture ‘the decisive moment’
on film provides the viewer with a new insight into the everyday.
"To see a moment captured in a second will always be remembered
for eternity."
Tom Matthews
Tom is currently studying History of Art and French at University College
London. Through his "snapshot"-esque images, Tom presents a brief, unedited
visual diary of the lives of three close friends. His work originally
came from the snapshot aesthetic, in which pictures are taken out of love,
evoking memories of a person, places and shared times. Playing on the
photographic style and philosophy of the New York artist, Nan Goldin,
and her belief that snapshots are about "creating a history by recording
a history", Tom maintains that the camera is used to generate situations;
"it was a way of documenting and freezing a setting permanently. I hoped
to capture a photogenic situation; a split second of a friend's activity,
expression or reaction, but at the same time I wanted to show people something
real - something that was pleasing to the eye, captivating, yet faithful
to the reality of the subject".
Tom's other main interests are painting and installation, playing music
and watching films.
