“My
paintings reflect my concern with the human condition and in particular
aspects such as emotion and memory. I try to capture the ‘soul’
of my sitters and I use a very direct approach to create emotionally revealing
portraits – exemplified here with ‘Head of Tracy’ and
‘Julia’.
My dress paintings are about creating a ‘presence’ through
the absence of female form and my interest in the past leads me to paint
period dresses - dresses that have a history and subsequently hold memories.
I
endeavour to create lively and spontaneous work that through use of colour
and mark making is unified and has a sense of harmony.”
