Shirley Heath
29th June - 23rd July 2004
Born in the thirties, Shirley's early childhood was spent in war-torn
Anerley on the far edges of Bromley; her love of nature and her vivid
imagination was first kindled by visits to the famous Crystal Palace
Park .
As a young woman Shirley trained in the fashion trade, working for an
exclusive couture house in the West End of London: many wealthy and
influential clients included the then Princess Alexandria and the beautiful
Hollywood actress Merle Oberon.
It was this love of fashion that led to a growing interest in Fine Art,
culminating in her decision to take a two year intensive course with
Bromley Adult Education and achieving an A grade A level pass.
Having reached this goal, Shirley then went on to take a three year
teaching training course at Stockwell College in Bromley (now the Civic
Centre), her extensive knowledge of both fashion and art being the basis
of her course.
For the past twenty five years, Shirley has been “repaying her debt” to
Bromley Adult Education, by working for them, as one of their most senior
Art lecturers. Her success can be measured by the achievements of her
students, many of whom exhibit in their own right.
Shirley extends her thanks to her family and friends (for their patience),
and to Headley Fine Arts (for their frames)!
