Sparks Wharf in Poplar, 1998

On leaving school Tony Costin studied art at both Folkestone and Dover Schools of Art. After art school he secured a seven-year apprenticeship as a lithographic artist in one of London's major printing houses, an industry that he worked in for many years.

When Tony was forty, his son, then ten years old, sustained an injury whilst playing football and his condition was only relieved with osteopathic intervention. Tony then decided to change career and studied at the London School of Osteopathy, graduating five years later with a diploma in Osteopathic Medicine.

Tony formerly painted in watercolours but in 1990 he met Dorset artist Harley Crossley who painted in oils using a drawing knife. Tony was impressed by the vibrancy of Harley's paintings and has produced his own oil paintings, using this technique, since then.

Until recently Tony lived in Orpington and combined painting together with running a successful osteopathic practise. In the spring of 2001 he moved to Bromley where he joined a team of therapists at The Osteopathic Clinic in Southborough Lane, Bickley. He has now reduced his hours thereby leaving him more time to paint. He has exhibitions on the Grand Union canal and his paintings can be found in America, Australia, Ireland and Spain.
