Mike Fryer – Continuum
24th May to 2nd July 2016
Open eve 31st May 7-9pm

Mike has been exploring the fusion of landscape with abstraction to challenge how we view the world and question the idea that what we see is all there is, seeking to examine the juxtaposition of the physical with the spiritual.

For some time Mike has been thinking about how to extend his landscape painting practice, particularly whether he can convey more than simply a representation of a particular view. The challenge was to develop ways to express other aspects of the world around us so that such paintings would make us question what we see. To elaborate these ideas, Mike has been exploring the fusion of landscape with abstraction to questions the idea that what we see is all that there is and so he seeks to examine the juxtaposition of the physical with the spiritual.

Mike paints mostly in acrylic on canvas using brushes and more recently, developing a practice using palette knives so that paint can be applied with a range of expressive textural possibilities. He also uses watercolour and oils and has a digital printmaking practice.

Mike has recently started an occasional newsletter. If you would like to receive this or to commission or discuss his work, please get in touch with him either directly (mike@mikefryer.co.uk) or through the gallery; and don’t forget his website (www.mikefryer.co.uk) which is kept reasonable up-to-date!
