I find inspiration through nature and sound and like to explore the relationship between sound and vision, be it nature, the spoken word or music as shown in my sound wave paintings. Dee Newton
This exhibition is a showcase of my latest works which are created with melted wax crayon and oil pastels on canvas. My creative drive leads me to experiment with many different styles and media, which I believe is reflected in the styles and bold nature of my paintings presented here. My works are often inspired by nature as well as my interest in turning sound into vision through my art, such as my sound wave paintings, which are made up of the spoken word recorded through an oscilloscope, and then painted directly onto a canvas or listening to a piece of music and transferring the movement of the sound onto canvas. I try not to allow myself to fall into a set pattern when creating works, and never pre-plan what I am going to do. This helps to ensure that all my pieces maintain a natural, organic quality, which fits with the themes that I use.
