23rd October to 16th November 2012

Joan Weston, subject leader for art at Dover Grammar School for Girls, has exhibited her paintings and art textiles at galleries and a wide variety of venues throughout the British Isles.

Since 1977 she has been teaching art and drama in Kent: she was the co-ordinator of Creative Arts at the Leigh City Technology College when it opened in Dartford in 1990 and then moved on to be the Head of the Creative Arts Faculty at Erith School in 1995. Since 2002 she has been the Head of Art at Dover Grammar School for Girls, and has retired this summer to spend her time painting and creating art textiles.

She has recently had exhibitions of her paintings at Basildon Library Gallery, Essex, at the Astor Community Theatre Gallery in Deal, at the St. Juliens Club in Sevenoaks, in the Old Chapel Tearoom in St. Margaret’s at Cliffe and in the Charlton Centre in Dover. She will be returning to the Astor Theatre in November with an exhibition of her art textiles.

Her paintings mainly focus on landscapes, some quite realistic and others which are based on real places around where she lives in Kent but which verge on the abstract, either in their compositions or in her use of vibrant colour.
