Unique and fun, inspired by Roy Lichtenstein, Malkie presents his first solo exhibition at Ripley Arts centre.

Art was always my favourite subject at school but I did not pursue it as a career as I felt it was too risky financially. However I always promised myself I would take it up as a hobby when I retired, and so I did in January 2014.

My mission was to produce my own unique and easily recognisable style. That style was inspired by Roy Lichtenstein’s line drawings initially and I set myself certain parameters to keep continuity of style: I decided there would be no backgrounds to detract the eye from the main subject, the title would always appear in the body of the picture, I would use the nick name “Malkie” as a logo, I would produce all pictures for Exhibition on a consistent A3 paper size, and they would be framed under reflective glass with a simple black frame of 40×50 cm.

Very often the title and or the subject is a parody or just quirky which suits my personality. The pictures are intended to be eye catching and fun.

I hope you will enjoy!
