1976 and all that – Oxford
January 6th to January 30th 2009
Open evening 6th January 2009 7-9pm
Sezgin Kemal, Head of English at Newstead Wood School, continues to explore creative thinking and self expression in her collaboration with photographer David Wood. Tools she employs in her teaching practice: journalism, collage, perspectives and experiments are displayed. Her postgraduate year at Oxford provides this rich source of inspiration.David Wood and Sezgin Kemal have collaborated on photographic projects for three years. It has been a most successful professional relationship.
David’s first introduction to photography was using his father’s box camera on a family holiday to Cornwall. After National Service he joined Beckenham Photographic Society where he has been a member for 50 years this year. During this time he served as President for 12 years. He is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and gained an Associateship in 1976. Currently Chairman of the Society’s Colour Group David has gained a number of awards for his work including the Distinction of the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain
Sezgin Kemal is Head of English at Newstead Wood School and currently enjoys image work in her literary analyses. Her collage work is a spin off from the academic introspections. She enjoys producing at least three collages a year which symbolize aspects of life/work balance.
The collaboration works at many levels: in terms of technique and skill the arts and sciences are brought together. Ideas are discussed, arranged, formatted and photographs taken. These are then produced in card and picture form for the exhibition. Among David’s current pictures showcasing his latest trip to South America (Peru) this year, are other views of contemporary urban scenes.
