Vikky Furze – ‘Chilly Polar Passions’.
2nd June to 26th June 2009
Open evening Monday 8th June 7-9pm
Vikky Furse’s passion is drawing and painting in mountainous areas.
She was Artist in Residence in Antarctica, and in the Arctic she travels with Inuit hunters and their dog teams in NE Greenland. From her field sketch- books and memories she makes finished paintings in her studio in Kent.
Vikky Furse is Art-school trained, she first visited the Arctic on small Russian ice-breakers around Svalbard. Later she camped there, always sketching & painting.
Four expeditions to NE Greenland followed. Vikky loves travelling with the Inuit and their dogs in late winter, eating what they eat, sleeping in tents or huts, and drawing till her fingers are numb. Witnessing the supreme and lonely landscape with the hunters who survive there, she feels is an honour
Her work has been exhibited in London, across the UK and abroad. In 2007 Vikky was an Artist in Residence in Antarctica, and she lectures on expedition tour ships. Publications include a 4 page feature of her work in Polar Regions in the Artists & Illustrators magazine.
