Animal Portraits by Lee Nightingale
6th Jan to 31st Jan 2014
All the pictures in the exhibition have been taken by myself at various places on my travels.
I generally work in pastel and graphite and occasionally acrylic, my particular fondness is the big wild cats of Africa and Asia. I also teach small groups in pastel at home and have worked in schools and galleries teaching and demonstrating.
My interest in art started like many artists at school. Having lived in Sidcup all my life I am a member of the local art group where we have a lot of opportunities for exhibiting our work, I have won two prizes in consecutive years for the best picture.
I’m a self-taught artist and over the past 6 years I have had commissions for pet & wildlife portraits.
My favourite subject is wildlife and I visit a big cat sanctuary in Kent 3 times a year where I can take wonderful reference photos.
Later in life I worked part time for the Age Concern Charity teaching art at a day centre. From there I started to take commissions for paintings of cats & dogs from photographs, also the odd rabbit and bird and my favourite subject, tigers.
Since then I have painted many different animals including apes, zebras, pandas, wolves and many types of wild cats.
I have exhibited in various places including the Marwell Wildlife Society using my favourite medium, pastel, and specialising in wild animal portraits.
