As a child I enjoyed looking at paintings, and spent many hours in the Walker Gallery, Liverpool with my grandmother. I went on to study History of Art at Manchester University in the 1970s.
My career was in primary education, specialising in art and music. I particularly enjoyed seeing children from many diverse backgrounds across the world use art and music as a common language to develop their personality and social skills.

Right from those early days in and around Liverpool, I have always dabbled in art, but during my busy teaching career, painting and drawing took something of a back seat. I did however develop a passion for photography, which I believe helped me to develop an eye for composition, which has proved invaluable for my painting.

About 10 years ago, I enrolled on a course in watercolour painting at Dulwich Picture Gallery with Royal Watercolour Society member Liz Butler. Liz is an inspirational teacher and re-ignited my passion for painting. I still attend classes and workshops with Liz, and she is constantly encouraging me to extend my range and approach. I have also attended life drawing classes with Stuart Ganley, another inspirational teacher, and have taken a course with the Society of Botanical Artists.

I do not have a particular subject that I like to paint, but will tackle anything and everything that interests me. I am especially fascinated by the effects of light, and watercolour is the perfect medium for this.
