Summer Concert of Choral and Vocal Music
The choir will perform one of Vaughan Williams’ lesser-known cantatas: ‘In Windsor Forest’. This is a tuneful work from 1931 which derives from his opera about Shakespeare’s Falstaff, ‘Sir John in Love’. They will also include other items such as Edward Bairstow’s ‘Blessed City, Heavenly Salem’ and ‘Come Again, sweet love doth now invite’ by John Dowland which was included in his ‘First Booke of Songes or Ayres’ of 1597.
We are also very excited that our first Friends’ President, the local resident and world-renowned opera singer, dramatic soprano Susan Bullock CBE will also perform. She will give us favourites from the opera such as ‘O mio babbino caro’ from Puccini’s comic one act opera ‘Gianni Schicchi’, ‘Vilja’ an aria from Lehár’s ‘The Merry Widow’ and, appropriately, George Gershwin’s ‘Summertime’.
