Matthew Williams has been painting and drawing for over 40 years. Working mainly in watercolours, his subjects vary from portraits, landscapes and nature, or to objects or subjects that he finds inspiring.
His diverse range of subjects is, however, predominantly inspired by both beauty or character. Beauty that can be perhaps found in the face of a child, or the character one might find for instance, in a Venetian doorway, or the familiar shape and texture of a common crab.
In style he prefers to use a more representational approach to his work and has been influenced by artists as diverse as Beardsley and Frederick Gore amongst others. The results of which can be seen to be reflected in some of his works.
Matthew has previously had work exhibited in the BBC and sold many pieces privately. He has also produced pieces on commission.
He is currently a member of the ‘Commission an Artist’ company.
