Anne North : Reflections
27th March to 19th April 2012
Open eve: Wed 27th March 7-9pm
Reflections is a collection of my recent art work involving glass. My work reflects the ideas and images we see around us. Light plays upon glass in a unique way, never inert, constantly changing, enabling the viewer to see the piece differently at various times of the day. I invite the viewer to take look at what inspires me and read those images in a new and exciting way.
Art for me is about having an idea and translating that idea into light, colour and form. The original idea itself suggests the medium I use, using a range of materials where it is relevant.
After studying at Ravensbourne and Tonbridge College I obtained a BA honours degree in Fine Art at the Kent Institute of Art and Design(KIAD) in Canterbury, and teaching certificate at Hastings. I now work and teach from my studio in Rye. My commissions include outdoor installations for private homes, sculptural pieces for private collections, Wall Friezes for a spa in Iceland, mobile glass sculptures and glass panels for bespoke furniture. I have exhibited at George’s house and The Metropole galleries in Folkestone as well as in Whitstable and Rochester.
I enjoy working with a wide and eclectic range of medium such as wood, metal, stone, paint and mixed media. More recently I have been experimenting with glass, exploring colour, form and texture. I use fusing, pate de verre, engraving, stained and painted glass and kiln formed techniques in my current work.
I am continually determined to push the boundaries in an imaginative and contemporary way, using traditional skills and techniques.
This current collection represents an innovative approach to displaying glass, in that it is not simply a panel framed and hung, but a fusion of glass, wood, painted and textured surfaces and other media creating an original entirety.
