Jacqueline Glanvile: TROPICAL PARADISE
Mon 30th November to Tues 22nd December 2009
Open evening 30th November 7-9pm

Vibrancy and vivacity are immediately evident in the lively paintings of Jamaican born Jacqueline Glanvile. Jacqueline’s bold surreal expression of exaggerated realism bursts across the canvas and into your imagination.

I was born into Jamaica’s culture of colourful sights and sounds. Tropical vibrancy, art, song, dance and flora have interested me greatly over the years.

Creativity for me is a very internal and personal experience. I enjoy the dialogue between me and the painting exploring and discovering. My art is often poised on the boundary between abstraction and realism.

I like to exaggerate what I see and feel. Part or all often left unexplained, allowing the viewer’s imagination to work and get inside the painting. At times I like to push the boundaries for dramatic effect.

I love the sensual texture, feel and character of oil and acrylic paints on canvas and like to keep the work loosely painted. The end result may be very different to what I imagined when I started, adding to the fun.

I like to be flamboyant in my art. I see art in all that surrounds me; colour is my day long obsession. It is not only in the end result that I experience the greatest pleasure but also in the journey of the creation. Painting for me is a satisfying vehicle of self expression.

I am a trained nurse, teacher, beauty and holistic therapist. Over the years I have enjoyed helping friends with their interior home designs and creating evening dresses. Most of my time is now spent painting in my garden studio and helping to run the family finance business.
