Light and Colour: Mixed Media paintings by Carole Aston 22 October – 15th November 2013
Open eve 23rd October 7-9pm
The starting-point for all art is inspiration. For me, ideas for paintings come from my surroundings – whether at home or on holiday – which I record in my sketchbooks. In particular, I like subjects in which there is an interaction, pattern or repetition of shapes, and this probably stems from my early training as a textile designer. Carole Aston
I was born and grew up in Hertfordshire, and after living in various other parts of the country, have lived in Kent for the last 35 years. I have drawn and painted all my life. In the 1960’s I trained as a textile designer. Because flowers are used so much in textile patterns, we spent many hours drawing and painting them. Much emphasis was placed on accurate drawing, colour-mixing and perspective; also on compositional balance, which is important if the design is to repeat satisfactorily. This training has proved invaluable in subsequent artwork. Carole Aston
