Mysticism and Realism: Gwyneth Wheeler   22nd October – 23rd December 2013 Open eve 22nd October 7-9pm
Gwenyth works with encaustic wax as a change from using other art mediums.  She finds it liberating and exciting as each piece is – to some extent – both unpredictable and unique.     The rich colours and textures provide endless possibilities for abstract painting and land/seascapes, with elements of “mysticism and realism”.

MYSTICISM AND REALISM

I have always been very interested in “the arts” and have been a concert goer and exhibition visitor throughout my life. However, due to work pressures, I did not really explore “art-making” until my retirement. Since this time I have attended numerous Adult Education courses (and still do) and gained a diploma from the O.C.A (Open College of the Arts).

In 2007, as a member of Chislehurst Artists, I attended a demonstration entitled: “Encaustic Wax” and have been hooked ever since. After the demands of watercolour, it was a revelation to find a medium which led me to explore the colour density, textures, and effects using different grounds, resulting in “the happenings”. Now however, I feel I am more in control of this medium and while there will always be an element of mysticism, I can now combine this with realism.

It gives me pleasure to share my enthusiasm with you and I hope you will enjoy the “mysticism and realism” within the paintings.
