Ripley Mural winner Vivienne Orr
Wed 9th May to Mon 18th June 2018.
Bromley Arts Council is pleased to pronounce Vivienne Orr as our winner of this year’s Mural competition. Preparation and painting will shortly commence, and we look forward to a splendid enhancement to one of our select meeting rooms. Vivienne’s Mural entry, along with a selection of her artwork will be available to view in this exhibition.
Ripley Mural:
A near Abstraction with acknowledgement to William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement. The beautiful gardens of Ripley Arts Centre with a discreet classical statue and traditional fountain are symbolically portrayed.
At lower left a bride holding a bouquet awaits her marriage. There is a central theme of musical signs and instruments and at the top right corner pens and brushes indicate literary and artistic interests. The figure at lower right with the swirling skirt epitomises movement, dance and exercise.
The imagery sweeps over and around, encompassing each concept and presents, as in a shop window, the diverse facilities and opportunities on offer at Ripley Arts Centre. Vivienne Orr lives in Bickley and enjoys sketching and figure drawing, particularly the elegant and powerful movements of cricketers and tennis players. She like to work quickly in any natural medium and responds to being given an interesting theme, such as this.
