Chris Kelly: Light, Land and Water
23rd July to 16th August 2013
Open eve 23rd July 7-9pm
This is a collection of my more recent paintings in oil and acrylic. My work is an expression of my love of landscape, capturing the atmosphere that it evokes for me through the effect of light on its elements. I am often attracted to the effect created by the presence of water on light in the landscape.

I have been painting in earnest since I was 16, when I was lucky enough to benefit from the Saturday morning life classes for kids at Camberwell School of Art. That was the experience that first opened my eyes to tone, line, and warmth and coolness in colour.
I subsequently took a degree in history of art at the University of East Anglia, which got me looking at human artefacts through different ages and cultures, and exposed me to a very broad approach to painting. I especially loved the German Expressionists and some of the Post-Impressionists, such as Vuillard and Bonnard, although I do not consciously think about style when I paint.
Since graduating I have been leading a kind of double life, working as a successful software developer and project manager for financial institutions for many years, looking after my family, while trying to find the time and energy to keep my painting going.
