Gail Chalk: Watercolours, Monoprints and Etchings
1st Feb to 25th Feb 2011
Open evening Wed 2nd Feb 7-9pm
My starting point for all my paintings and prints is observational drawings and paintings – but different mediums take differing pathways.
“With etching I like to let my imagination take over and I enjoy creating a sense of mystery – with watercolours it is colour and pattern that is my main concern – and with my monoprints I like to create a sense of airiness and light. “Gail Chalk
I am a practising artist and an art teacher. I teach classes for Bromley Adult Education College and I also teach privately. I studied art at Camberwell and City and Guilds Art School and I currently attend classes with Anthony Farrell in Etching and Life Painting.
My watercolours are painted mostly for observation, I love the way watercolour works and the luminous effect you can get. I am very interested in patterns and composition. I also love the way different light can affect a subject and make some colours more intense and vibrant.
With my watercolour monoprints I work mainly from finished watercolour paintings I like the way I have more time to manipulate the watercolour on the plate with this method.
I think etching is the medium which encourages me to use my imagination most,. I love the way I can create atmosphere and drama. Gail Chalk
