Open eve: 25th October 2012 7-9pm

“This collection of paintings reflects my love of flowers and my response to their beauty and fragrance”. Julie King. ‘The artist is the confident of nature; flowers carry on dialogues with him through their graceful stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms. Every flower has a cordial word which nature directs towards him’ Auguste Rodin.

The Essence of Flowers -Julie King
Working from fresh flowers I paint directly on to the paper with ink and watercolour to capture their life and movement. Each flower is unique. It can be subtle and delicate or strong and powerful. The contrast of black ink against watercolour gives the illusion of the flowers dancing off the paper, creating a contemporary feel.
Julie trained as a textile designer and spent several years designing household textiles. She now runs popular watercolour classes for adults in Kent and teaches both landscape and flower painting in venues ranging from National Trust gardens to P& O cruise liners.

She received the Society of Botanical Art ‘Certificate of Botanical Merit’ in 2007 for a free flowing style of iris and has since had two books published by Search press- How to paint Flowers in Watercolour, in association with Winsor and Newton and more recently Irises in Watercolour.
