Patrick O’Connor: Nature and Me
4th March to 28th March 2014

Open evening 4th March 2014 7-9pm

After living abroad for the last 20 years, I started painting again after many years.

Subjects I like to paint are fauna and wildlife. I paint mainly in watercolour but experiment with other mediums.  My occupation was Tiling and Decorating and I was known as ‘Pat the Tiler’, so that’s where the signature PTT comes from. This is my first exhibition and I am pleased that it is going to be local.

I was born in Chislehurst and went to school in Bellingham/Catford. I have an Art A Level and my exam entry was exhibited in Lewisham town hall. When I left school I went to work in the print and have had various careers including owning a fruit and veg shop in Petts Wood, painting, decorating and tiling.

Following my second marriage in 1994 we moved to Lanzarote, Canary Islands where I started painting again about 5 years ago.

I have enjoyed drawing and painting since I was a child and my passion for art is stronger than ever. The medium I prefer is watercolour in the traditional manner together with concentration on detail.

I feel drawn to mainly animals and birds, I have to feel a passion about the subject before I can paint it. I have always loved wildlife and nature, especially Birds of Prey.

I am experimenting painting flowers at present and am always on the lookout for new subjects to paint. Like I said before the subjects have to inspire me before I want to paint them.

At present I am exploring the websites to upload my pictures online. I have also had a few meetings with some local art galleries who are interested in buying some original pieces and I am producing limited edition prints of the original paintings.

I am at the moment semi retired and so have time to paint as and when I want when I find a subject I want to paint. I like to be precise about detail and enjoy the process of finding the right balance to create the image I have in my mind. I am very methodical in how I paint and again the subject is one that I have to feel a passion for.
